Interestingly, a study showed that yoga increases GABA levels in the brain (http://www.physorg.com/news98980887.html).

Chronic insomnia is not only linked with depression, but also an increased risk of diabetes and heart disease. But all of these are linked with obstructive sleep apnea.

There are many studies linking stress to low levels of GABA. One in particular is post-traumatic stress disorder. Stress from not sleeping well for any reason can also lower your GABA levels. Anything to calm and relax your nervous system will raise your GABA levels. So in effect, having low GABA levels is not what causes insomnia. There's something else that causes both insomnia and low GABA levels.

There are lots of other studies suggesting brain injury due to sleep apnea. One study showed a much higher incidence of lacunar infarcts in sleep apnea patients. Rats with the Alzheimer-like gene subjected to chronic hypoxia had autopsy results that were similar to the scar tissue seen in humans with Alzheimer's.

It's clear that untreated obstructive sleep apnea leads to brain damage and memory loss. But it doesn't happen overnight. It's been there years before diagnosis. And most people (80-90%) are never diagnosed. Maybe this is a very sensitive subject, but could untreated sleep apnea be a major reason for Alzheimer's?

I've seen this before and it really bring home how dangerous sleep apnea is. There are millions of people driving who have no idea they are suffering from sleep apnea, including many, many truck drivers.

It is important that something is done to <a href="http://www.stop-sleep-apnea.info" rel="nofollow">stop sleep apnea</a>.

Problem with sleep deprivation is after a while your mind tricks you into thinking that you are wide awake. You feel alert, even euphoric
This is probably when crucial decisions like 'should I get behind the wheel or take a nap first?' are made

No matter how great you feel, if you are sleep deprived, take a nap. It just makes sense
